A look back at FCBD

Buford, Ga./Lawrenceville, Ga. (April 04, 2016) – Normally if you walked into a comic book store and grabbed a book off the new releases shelf then walked out without paying for it, you'd be stealing. But not on May 7th. On that day, Galactic Quest Comics -- both locations in Buford and in Lawrenceville -- will feature a large selection of free comic books designed to be taken and enjoyed without having to pay a single cent.

That’s because May 7th is Free Comic Book Day, a day when your local comic stores give away thousands of books. Galactic Quest Comics and Games is leading the forefront of the all-ages event in Gwinnett County at both their Buford and Lawrenceville locations.

For the past several years, both stores have broken record after record of attendance for the event as it continues to grow.

"Free Comic Book Day has become one of our largest community events for the stores," says Buford store manager Sean Taylor. "Not only does it continue to surpass our expectations in bringing new people into the store, but it also has grown to become a sort of annual 'block party' for comic book and pop culture fans in Gwinnett."

"We're pulling out all the stops this year and highlighing a lot of my favorite creators," says Lawrenceville manager Jami Jones. "It's going to be our biggest celebration yet."

Featured guests include:

- Matt Wilson (Eisner and Harvey nominated colorist of Phonogram, Young Avengers, Thor, Daredevil, Captain Marvel, Black Widow, Wonder Woman, Swamp Thing, Adventures of Superman)

- Brian Reber (colorist of New X-Men, Batwing, Unity)

- Edward Cherniga (artist for Upper Deck Marvel cards, Bettie Page, Vampirella)

- Bobby Nash (writer of At the Earth's Core, Domino Lady: Threesome)

- Ryan Sellers (artist of Hero Cats)

- Lysa Shin (horror artist)

- Jarret Williams (creator of Super Pro K.O.!)

- Sonya Thompson (Walking Dead zombie)

- Kylie Szymanski (Walking Dead, Governor's daughter)

- Matt Cook (Avenged Cosplay)

Other featured attractions include the Batmobile and Jurassic Park jeep (Lawrenceville only), face painting, special sales, raffles, Gundam building demos, game demos, live music concerts with Daddy Issues, the Southeast Ukers, and lots, lots more!

Galactic Quest’s Free Comic Book Day celebration begins at both locations when the doors open early at 9:00 a.m. and continues until the doors eventually close in an exhausted and well-partied stupor at 7:00 p.m. that evening.
